The Making of An Inkle Loom

I love to weave. It is something I have been doing for a couple of years now and I’m always anxious to start a new design. Lately thought, I found myself needing more then the 3 – 5 yards my biggest loom could provide. So I fired up Google and did a search for building plans.

Enter Fabric Follies Two!

She had a rough building plan for a large loom that I was able to follow pretty easily. I went to Home Depot and managed to get the lumber cut down to the dimensions stated in her building plan.

Then I went to my friend Allison and Jason’s house and begged him to assemble it for me.

Jason and Kress marked the wood for the dowels we would need to insert for the warping pegs.

Yay! Everything is now ready for assembly!

Jason drills in the last of the screws for the support upright!

Since the warping pegs take a lot of tension when warped, we wanted to be sure they were firmly in the boards so we used Gorilla Glue. Word of advice: they are not kidding when they say use gloves. The above picture is what it looks like after being scrubbed with paint thinner *twice*.

This was 15 minutes later after destroying a nail file to sand everything off. Hey…at least my skin was soft afterwards?

The inaugural trim is now underway and Big Bertha works like a champ! Glee!  Since she does approximately 16 yards of weave, it’ll be awhile before I finish it so picture of the finished product will be awhile. :)
